She will do anything to prove me wrong

For 2 years now, Emily has been telling me that she can't ride a 2 wheeled bike "because she doesn't know how yet". I've been trying to impress upon her the lesson of having to work for her success and how things don't just fall in her lap, she has to work for them.

To that end, Emily jumped on the neighbor boy's bike tonight and just rode it. No training wheels, no one to push her off, no one to hold the bike. She "just knew how" and rode it like she's been doing it for years.

So much for that lesson.

But I learned this matter-of-factly when we were going to softball practice tonight so after we returned home, we got her bike out and gave it a try. And sure enough, she can ride the bike. We gave her a push off to start (her bike is bigger than the neighbor boy's) and she was off and riding.

Easter Pictures

Thanks for sharing in all of the various Easter celebrations this weekend.  We had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed celebrating with everyone.

I thought I’d share some pictures from the weekend … and I guess from the previous weekend too as we have egg coloring pictures in there too.

After School Activities

Emily has been keeping quite busy lately.  I don’t know if I shared, but she is doing Irish Dancing after school with a group.  She is enjoying it “okay”.  I wouldn’t say that it is her favorite thing to do.  She has two more sessions of that.

But she recently signed up for the Chess Club at school and is really excited about this.  Earlier in the year, Brian taught Emily to play chess and she really, really enjoys it.  So now she gets to play for 1.5 hours every Thursday with a group of friends.  Plus the Chess Master teaches them different moves each week.

Tennis

Tony’s first tennis match is tonight after school.  It appears that they do not have final line-ups yet for the matches.  The coach make a decision on tonight’s match and then said that it is not final and she would continue to evaluate them.  For tonight’s match, Tony is on exhibition … which means he may or not play.  It depends if the other teams has exhibition players to play.  If so, Tony would play, but the match does not earn points for the team match overall.  Hence the title ‘exhibition’.

The really good news is that Tony loves the uniforms!
