Emily's Fieldtrip

Emily's class went on a field trip on Friday. They went to Stratford Ecological Center in Delaware, OH. It focuses on teaching kids to respect nature. It was a fun field trip. Emily got to clean and dry an egg that a chicken had just laid, feed chickens, pet goats, see pigs and cows, see a prairie where they foster plants and have a man-made pond, check out the greenhouse where they pulled up swiss chard, beets and carrots right from the ground and let the kids taste them. Of course, Emily's favorite part of that was to use the beet to paint her face.

Emily had a great time and wants to go back again sometime.

Them's the breaks!

As many of you know already, Kristen tripped over her rabbit's litter box on Sunday and fell, breaking her foot in 3 places. She is in a splint and on crutches. She has to go to an orthopedic doctor on Thursday (they want the swelling to go down before attending to the breaks). Hopefully we'll know more after Thursday. We have no idea how they will treat it or how long she will be laid up.

We'll keep you posted.

Emily's First Softball Game

Emily attended her first softball game on Saturday.  I was a little nervous for several reasons:

1)      When I asked her if she wanted to play softball, she told me yes and I signed her up.  When it came time to go to practices, she didn’t want to go because she misunderstood and thought I was signing her up for volleyball?!?!

2)      She has absolutely zero experience playing softball

3)      All but 2 of her practices got rained out, so she got next to no practice time.

 

But she did great!  And she loved it – which is even more important.  She was 4/4 at bat … got on base every time!!!  She played 2^nd base, several outfield positions and catcher.  She didn’t like the catcher’s equipment, but she did well behind the plate.  She didn’t see any action at any of the other positions.
